Welcome to our P2/3 website. I will be updating this page often so please keep checking for updates. It has been really lovely welcoming everyone back to school and we’re all looking forward to starting a new year together with lots of new learning and laughs!

Term 1 so far…

We’ve been exploring and settling in to our new classroom with lots of new resources to support our learning. We’ve all adjusted to the new Primary 2 and 3 routine and learning format.
We’ve recently started independent tasks to supplement and consolidate our learning from direct teaching inputs. These are helping us to develop our independence and take more ownership of our learning. Once we’ve completed our job, we self assess and tick our name on the task board.
Literacy Home Learning Grid
As requested by several parents/carers at Parents Consultations, I have attached a Literacy Home Learning grid with some suggestions of activities you can do to support your child’s learning at home. There is also a list of spelling words and sounds we have covered to date. These are not compulsory but simple suggestions for those looking to consolidate our in-class learning.
Term 2 updates
We have had a busy term with lots of preparations for the Winter holidays. We enjoyed a trip to the National Museum, the Panto at the Festival Theatre and lots and lots of Winter show rehearsals. Plus we had a special visitor in the last week of term…

Term 3
Term 3 is off to a busy start as we get back into the class routine and continue with our learning. Keep checking the website for what we’ve been up to.

27.01.25 We’ve been enjoying doing phonics and tricky word scavenger hunts around the school each week! Last week we had to find the picture that matched our spelling words and this week we were identifying tricky words and writing them on our boards.

31.01.25
We finished reading our class novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and celebrated by doing themed activities and watching the film! We even got a chocolatey snack!

Numeracy and Maths Home Learning Grid
Here are some optional number and maths activities you can complete at home to consolidate in class learning.
Consonant Blends Spelling List Feb 2025
I’ve attached the other consonant blends we have covered so far this year. These spelling words are for you to practice with your child at home should you wish to support our in class learning. Above on the Literacy Learning Grid are some other spelling words from earlier in the school year to review.
Literacy Learning – February 2025
We enjoy lots of active learning activities in P2/3. Here are some examples of the activities we have been doing in class.

Numeracy Learning – February 2025
We’ve been learning to subitise and been learning about equal groups as a multiplication strategy. Here are some examples of our active learning.

IDL Learning – February 2025
Our theme this term is our bodies. We’ve been learning about the function of the skeleton. We can name some bones found in our bodies. We will be moving on to look at the role of organs in our bodies and how to look after ourselves.

10.03.25
We’ve been continuing reading our class novel, the BFG, this week. We made our own dream catchers to hang in our homes.

We have been continuing learning about our bodies, with a focus this week on how we can look after ourselves. We did an experiment to learn about how important soap is when washing our hands and fighting germs. Then we wrote an information poster to support people with handwashing.

We’ve been working with P6 buddies each week to help us develop our technology skills. This week we made keynote presentations to help us get to know eachother better.

17.03.25
We’ve been exploring measurement for maths over the last few weeks. So far we’ve been learning to weigh using cubes, grams and kilograms. We’ve began using non-standard units to measure length before we learn more about centimetres and metres.

24.03.25
We linked our class novel the BFG with our Maths measure topic. We followed a recipe to mix and make dreams using our knowledge of miletres and litres.

Sports Day 2025
We were so lucky the sun was shining for our sports day this year. So proud of everyone for giving it their best and being team players – lots of smiles all round!

Dynamic Earth Trip
We had a great day out to Dynamic Earth! We took part in a Tropical Rainforest workshop and got a tour of the science museum.
