Welcome to our class page for P1! The children have had a great first few weeks in P1 and it has been so great getting to know them all. We will aim to post monthly updates on our class page with photos of our learning. We look forward to sharing what we get up to this year!

August
P1 enjoyed exploring their new learning environment in the classroom, the garden and the forest. Have a look at some photos from our first few weeks at school.
September
We have started to go to the teaching table twice a day to practice our sounds and numbers. Ask your child what sound they have been learning this week and if they can tell you any words that start with that sound! Miss Kramers is so proud of all their hard work.
October
October has been a busy month in P1. We have noticed the season changing and have talked a lot about what happens in Autumn. Pupils also enjoyed learning about the religious festival Diwali and some pupils created their own rangoli patterns outside using chalk. Some pupils also enjoyed dressing up for Halloween and learning spooky songs.
November
P1 have been enjoying reading and listening to lots of stories as part of Scottish Book week. They were very excited to listen to the 3 books in their Book Bug bag. We even did a vote after reading all the books to see which one was the most popular. The children were very excited to take their book bags home! We hope you have enjoyed reading the books together at home.
Some of the children were inspired by the book “My Pet Star” and made their own pet star with natural materials and toys Look at how creative they are!
December
December was a very busy month in P1! We enjoyed learning Winter songs and performing on the stage with the nursery in front of many of our families. Thank you to everyone who came. We were also learning about our local community and people who help us. We had visits from a police woman and fire fighters.
January

January has been a fantastic month in P1 with lots of new learning. We have now learned 18 sounds and we are having a go at writing words and even our first sentence! In Maths, we have been learning about patterns and symmetry. Have a look at some of our creations. We finished January by learning a Scottish ceilidh dance for Robert Burns Day. The children enjoyed it so much that they even asked to do it in PE again.
February
This month we have seen lots of imaginative and creative block play. The children have enjoyed creating a book filled with photos of all of their creations and have been using it for inspiration.
P1 have also started an exciting project this month. We will be trying to grow our own potatoes! We are learning to be patient and watch the small changes every week. Stay tuned for updates.
March
In the last week of term before the Easter holidays P1 had a fantastic Wellbeing Week and enjoyed taking part in many active and healthy activities.
April
We hope everyone had a lovely break over Easter. The children were so excited to see how much the potatoes had grown over the holidays – thanks to the nursery children who were watering the plants while we were away!
P1 also had a fantastic Sports Day with nursery at the end of April. The weather was sunny and everyone tried their best at all of the different stations! Well done everyone.
May
P1 went on their first big trip to the National Museum of Scotland. Some highlights from the children were going on a coach, seeing a T-Rex skull, touching a dinosaur poo, having lunch with their friends and exploring a play room at the museum!
June
I can’t believe this is our last month in P1! We have lots of exciting activities planned to celebrate the end of P1. We are also getting ready to go into P2 after the summer. We have played in the P2 playground and practiced lining up at the P2 door. We will meet our P2 teacher, Miss Neill on Wednesday 17th June.
