Generation Science

Primary 4 were visited by the amazing team and Generation Science on Monday 22nd April! We came became scientists for the morning and took part in a range of experiments. We learned about chemical reactions and how acidic or alkali something is. We experimented with a range of heat, light, gas and colour changes! Fun was had by all!!!

Dynamic Earth Workshop

We were lucky enough on Tuesday 26th March to be able to take part in an online workshop ran by Dynamic Earth. We learned about the Arctic and Antarctic and the different animals that live their. We took part in quizzes, sorting games and also had to play “spot the animals” that were camouflaged! Everyone said they had a great time at the end of it. We liked being able to type our answers into the computer and the presenter gave us instant feedback!

Food Chains

As part of our Science in Term 3, we have been learning about food chains. We have learned the terms “producer”, “consumer”, “prey” and “predator”. We particularly enjoyed creating our own food chain artwork. Have a look at some it below!

World Book Day

Every class in the school is taking part in a competition to decorate their classroom door with a book theme. Primary 4 have each created their favourite book characters for people to guess who they are. Have a look at our door display below. Everyone has worked so hard on it!

Visit from storyteller Claire McNicoll

On Wednesday 6th March, as part of World Book Week, storyteller Claire McNicoll came to visit the school and P4 got to attend one of her storytelling and song sessions!! We had great fun listening to the story about a selkie and creating our own versions of Aiken Drum from a song!

Numeracy

Since coming back from the February break we have been learning about Fractions. We have been learning to identify them and make our own fractions through playdoh, colouring, cutting and using ICT. We are learning that the denominator (the bottom number) tells us how many “bits” something has been cut in to and the numerator (the top number) tells us how many “bits” we have of it. Here are some pictures of us taking part in different fraction related activities.

HWB

We have been continuing with our Building Resilience topic of “Getting Active” this term. We have been thinking of ways we can make ourselves more active physically by setting ourselves targets but also how we can recharge our batteries. One easy way of being active with our friends is by playing so we have enjoyed the opportunity to play on the school’s new obstacle course!!! It’s fair to say we all enjoyed ourselves and were practising our balancing and coordination. We have also enjoyed taking part in more calm activities to recharge our batteries by reading, drawing and playing games with our friends.

IDL

Our topic for January and February is “Scots Language”. Through this we are exploring different Scot’s words, poems and learning about some famous Scottish people. Here are some pictures of us learning the names for some body parts in Scots. We had to go on a hunt around the classroom to find the names!

As part of this Scottish Learning we did some work around the poem “A Dug A Dug by Bill Keys. In the poem it references the RSPCA. This sparked some interesting discussion about the RSPCA and SSPCA which is Scotland’s own charity for helping animals. The children did some fantastic research around the SSPCA using the website and leaflets. They learned so many things and then created their own SSPCA posters. Here they are below!

Big Noise

Every Wednesday we are lucky enough to take part in Big Noise sessions. We started these in Primary 3 and have been progressing our skills since then. We play instruments, read music notes, work with beats and rhythms and join in with lots of singing and clapping patterns. Here are some recent pictures where we were listening to a piece of music and had to draw what we were imaging in our head as we heard it. The results were lovely 🙂
