P5 August 2025

Introduction

Welcome to P5! What a privilege it is to teach this class for another year and what an exciting year it is going to be. There will be lots of learning, plenty of trips and hopefully some great adventures too! As always, please make sure to send your young person to school with a water bottle, snack and possibly a waterproof jacket, if the weather doesn’t look great. Our PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays and we will continue our brilliant Big Noise sessions on a Thursday as well. If you need any support or have any questions, please do reach out to me through the office. – Mr Harley

Stand Out Experiences

Here you will find out some stand out learning experiences. These could be from visitors, trips or even learning events within our school.

Health Week

Primary 5 engaged in a wide range of activities during Health Week. They made their own pizzas from scratch, blended smoothies and tried a variety of exotic fruits. They also took part in Tennis, Hockey and Football sessions, along with completing the obstacle course and also worked with the Ranger Service to explore the minibeasts that live in our environments.

Edinburgh College of Art

Primary 5 visited the Edinburgh College of Art and took part in a variety of creative inputs. This included exploring local galleries, evaluating work and then creating their own pieces of art, both individually and collaboratively.

Celebrate Scotland Show

We are so proud of our P5 and P4 pupils who absolutely smashed their Celebrate Scotland Show. A huge well done to all involved, from our poetry recitals, our shared learning to our class songs! They were all brilliant!

Pancake Day

Primary 5 enjoyed making and then eating their own pancakes. They weighed and measured the correct ingredients and then covered safety tips whilst cooking and using hot equipment.

Big Noise

Primary 5 engage with a Big Noise session every Thursday morning in class. Our instructor Maya provides expert music education and all pupils are able to join no matter their skill level. We recently had a parent visit session.

Glasgow Science Centre

Primary 5 explored all there was to see at the Glasgow Science Centre. This trip included seeing all the exhibition floors and also seeing a live experiment show in the theatre.

Cinderella

Primary 5 had a blast whilst watching Cinderella at the Lyceum Theatre. P5 pupils shared that their favourite moments included the bird props, the wicked step sister getting her toes chopped off and all the wonderful singing and dancing.

Into Film Festival – Cineworld Cinema

Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Cineworld Cinema as part of the Into Film Festivals. P5 chose to see Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

The Oriam – Sports Day

Our pupils visited the Oriam, along with Mr Glynn, to take part in a wide variety of sports. The theme of the day was teamwork and team spirit. We had two teams, ‘The Hungry Wolves’ and the ‘Confident Koalas’. Our pupils were brilliant representatives of Sighthill Primary School throughout the whole day.

University of Edinburgh Art Workshops

Students from the University of Edinburgh taught our pupils a wide range of art styles, including chalk rubbings, self portraits, abstract creations and collaborative collages.
