P3/4 August 2023

P3/4 have been lucky to have been receiving weekly maths lesson from Ross Gibson, Numeracy Development Officer for Edinburgh Council. Ross comes to work with the children every Friday morning and teaches them new and fun ways to explore maths!

We have been using cuisenaire rods and rekenreks to help us with our maths.

P3/4 are continuing with their Big Noise sessions every week. I am SO impressed with their knowledge of music!

Our Learning Wk bgng 26th April

Literacy

This week in literacy we have been working hard in our Literacy Rich Groups and in our writing lessons. We have been beginning to look at “fact and opinion” in Literacy and can now identify the difference between them both.

Numeracy

We are continuing to develop our addition and subtraction skills and Mr.Gibson is working with us every Friday morning. We have started to look at symmetry in shapes and are working on finding all the lines of symmetry in 2D shapes.

Art-

We have started to look at perspective drawing in Art-which is very tricky! We are going to keep practising and show our parents how to do it when they come and join our learning on Tuesday morning!

Join The Learning

Our grown ups came to take part in our Perspective Drawing Lesson for our share our learning morning in May.

Our Learning This Week

It’s been- as always- a very busy week this week and the children have been working really hard! We have started our new science topic “The Water Cycle” and this week have been carrying out some experiments to help us understand the processes involved in the water cycle. So we decided to complete the water cycle in a bag and cloud in a jar experiment! Have a look at our photos!

Our Learning Week Beginning 27th May

Primary 3/4 started off their week with a trip to the City Art Centre to look at an exhibition of paintings by Adam Bruce Thomson, followed by a workshop, where they made their own print templates. Everyone had a wonderful time and the children were fantastic! Their excellent behaviour was commented on by museum staff and so we are celebrating by having our marble party in 2 weeks!
